Throwback Thursday

What did Wren like way back when.........

I’ve always loved to read, so I have a ridiculous amount of favorite books from when I was a kid. Bunnicula by James Howe is one that really stood out for me. I remember thinking it was the funniest thing I’d ever read.

The first book that kept me so fascinated I read it in one day was The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I loved imagining a house like that with lost passageways and grand gardens.

There are a couple of books that I loved which are not very well known. The first was Jeremy Visick by David Wiseman. It was a ghost story, and I loved those so much that the librarian at my school would keep them reserved for me whenever a new one came in.

The other somewhat obscure one I loved was Children of Morrow by H.M. Hoover. I borrowed it when I was in 6th grade, but then after I returned it, never found it again. It wasn’t until I was an adult (and eBay was invented) that I was able to get my own copy.

Watch Out Wednesday

I don’t have any upcoming releases at the moment. I’m currently in the early stages of a new project.

I do, however, have a contest on my website this month. Anyone who leaves a review of Atancia on Amazon can send me the link, and they’ll be entered into a raffle drawing for a $5 Amazon gift card.

Turn It Up Tuesday

What inspires Wren to write.....

I don’t really listen to music as I write. It distracts me because I’m the type to listen and analyze the words. While writing Atancia, though, there were several scenes that involved music, and songs would go through my head as I wrote, helping me to set the mood.

When the main characters, Atty and Ben, first meet they are at a New Year’s Eve party, and being that they’re in Miami, a lot of Latin songs play. Some of the songs I imagined might play at the party include: Vivir Lo Nuestro by Marc Anthony, Juliana by DLG, and La Dueña del Swing by Los Hermanos Rosario.

Vivir Lo Nuestro
Here is a decent translation, in case you want to know what it means: http://lyricstranslate.com/en/Vivir-Lo-Nuestro-Vivir-Lo-Nuestro.html

Later in the story, Atty meets Ben’s brothers. One of them, Matt, plays guitar and convinces Atty to sing along with him. I had several songs I thought might work for that scene, including Killing Me Softly by the Fugees, Lean on Me by Bill Withers, and most likely, When the Stars Go Blue by Ryan Adams.

When the Stars Go Blue (the acoustic version since that’s how it would play in the story)

There is a scene where Atty decides to sing in the shower. This is the song I had in mind. There’s quite a bit of intro in this version, but it fits the tone in which she would sing.

Meet The Author Monday - Wren Figueiro

Meet the Author Monday

Hi, my name is Wren Figueiro, and I’m the author of The Durand Duology.  The series is a paranormal romance for young adults. It revolves around a girl named Atancia who discovers she is Durand – an immortal being who can survive by transferring energy from other living things.

A lot of people have asked me how to pronounce her name. In my head I pronounce it in Spanish, the closest way I can think of is that it sounds like the words “At” “An” then the long e – “see” and the short “a” that sounds like an “ah”. So “At-an-see-ah.” Friends call her Atty for short.

I got the idea for the story while talking to my sister about what we’d like to see in a paranormal romance book. When you get to the end of the first book, you’ll know what we were talking about.

You can get more info at my website: http://wrenfigueiro.wix.com/author

If anyone has questions or would like to chat, they can find me on my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/Atancia
